Overview
Remains of a Bible city, located south the valley of ELAH. This was the home village of the wives of Judah, the hiding place of future King David, and a city fortified by King Rehobam. I Sam 22 :1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam.
Location
A Biblical Map shows the location of Adullam ( in the center, marked by a red circle) and the major roads and cities around it starting from the Canaanite period up to the Roman period. The city is located on the side of a route that ascends from the valley of ELAH to HEBRON and BETHLEHEM, in the upper part of Ha-She-fela central Israel.

Adullam appears in the Bible in several locations.
1. Judah's wives - Judah was the forth son of the patriarch Jacob (Israel). Adullam first appears as the home village of Judah's first and second wives, both Canaanites from Adullam, Judah married his first wife, the daughter of Shuah from Adullam, after he and his brothers son Joseph to the midianites merchantman ( Gen 38:1)
And it came to pass at that time that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned into a certain Adullaamite, where name was Hirah
Judah's wife gave birth to two sons, Er and Onan, who later died. His wife also died (Gen 38:12) "And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep shearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite" Judah then married his son's widow Tamar in Adullam ( Gen 38:20)
2. Conquest of Joshua- Adullam is listed as one of the cities conquered by the Israelite (Josh 12: 7,15)
'And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west. The king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;
3. King Rehobam- son of Solomon, fortified the city (II Chro 11:5-12)" And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah. He built Shoco and Adullam and Gath and Mareshah and Ziph and Adoraim and Lachish and Azekah and he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them and store of victual, and of oil and wine. And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong..
Adullam is also mentioned by the prophet Micah the Morasthite, who describe this destruction of Sennacherib (Micah 1:15)
" Yet will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of Mareshah he shall come unto Adullam the glory of Israel".
Meaning
The name Adullam in is Hebrew REFUGE / JUSTICE OF THE PEOPLE and comes from the story of David ( I Sam 22 and various psalms) Before becoming King David was forced to run from people who wanted to kill him, and ended up in hiding in the cave of Adullam.
ADULLAM - its a place of refuge
I Sam 22:1 says that "So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. soon his brothers and all his other relatives joined him there. Hallelujah!!!
There was a place called Adullam with many caves. The biggest among all was the cave which David had stayed. It could hold of 600 people. The cave of Adullam was a place of refuge for David. The cave, the refuge place gave rest to his soul. The cave, the refuge place spare his life. The cave, the refuge not only protected his life but also his whole family, relatives & friends. Bible says in Prov 18:10 " The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it, and is safe"Amen!!
Our God is our refuge, He is our strong tower. He is our Adullam, He is our protector Amen!!! In His presence there is protection, in His presence there is rest. There is no harm in his presence. Will you runneth into His presence? Ps 46:1-3 says,
1. God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble.
2. for this reason we do not fear when the Earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea.
3. When its waves crash and foam, and the mountains shake before the surging sea.
ps 46:7 " The Lord who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! Hallelujah.
Dear Brother's / sister's we are at end time . The world is facing dreadful thing. It's a time to get into a cave. It's a time to get into a refuge. If God is your refuge there is no place for fear. The psalmist saying here whatever may happen in the earth but I do not fear because the Lord who commands armies to protect me is with me. So I will never be shaken. Amen!!
God is ready to protect you. He is ready to send his armies to safeguard you. He has the ability to protect you and your families. Could you get into His refuge? could you wait upon His presence? In ps 91:2 the author says "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God ; in Him will I trust." Hallelujah!!
Will you able to declare like psalmist? He is proclaiming that i will trust him, because He is my refuge. Whom you trust? who is your refuge? Is it the doctor? Is it the lawyer? It is upon the higher officials? or else is it your own straight? whom you trust? who is your refuge? Just think of it. If you put your trust upon God you will never be shaken by anything. Let's take a decision right now to put our trust in God and make Him as our refuge.
ADULLAM- Its a place of the Justice
Another Hebrew meaning for Adullam is "Justice of the people". Our God is a God of Justice. Ps 37:28 says, "For the Lord loveth judgment and forsaken not his saints; they are preserved forever; but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off Amen!! Our God loves justice. He will never forsakes his saints. may be you had faced some discrimination, may be your business partners cheated upon you or may be your own family members betrayed you with assets and properties. whatever, God is going to do justice for you.
Ps 9:16 says, "The Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands"
we sometimes think of justice in a negative way, as primarily about punishment, but justice is also profoundly positive. In Hebrew the word for justice is MISHPET also carries the sense of putting things right, God is going to put things right in your life. He is going to ordain your blessings, your ways Hallelujah!! Lets lift up our hands and praise his mighty name.
He is the same yesterday, today and forever. And today He is promising you that I will go before thee and make the crooked places straight, I will break n pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron" Isa 45:2
King David trusted God in times of troubles instead of believing his own strength. So God protected not only him but also his whole family from the hands of Saul. And also he did justice for him. David wrote psalm 57 when he was in the cave of Adullam. ps 57:1 says "Be merciful to me, God be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you" Yes in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed. He cries out to God for his protection, for justice. God heard his prayer and did wonderful things for him. Hallelujah!!!
